Blue hat

My painting process using acrylic paint.

Rough sketch before I added the hat. The line is an indicator for where I want the hat to fall over her eyes.

The above video shows the process of adding the hat to the figure.

This video demonstrates step 1 blocking in color, highlights, mid tones and dark values.

The above image is the result of the first step - blocking in color and establishing the highlights, mid tones and dark values.

The focus here was to establish various edges in the piece, such as how to take attention away from the blue hat and focus on the picture as a whole. In other words, guide the viewer around the painting and not just look at the blue hat.

Now here, I have added loose brush strokes to the bush in the background, the blue sky and the flowers. I am not going for detail in this project. But I want to achieve the art of painting loosely and capturing light or shall I say value, shape and forms with a little texture thrown in the mix.

Finished picture with a white border.

This is the finished painting. A mock up two toned blue digital mat. This painting is titled “Blue hat” - 8 x 10 on a stretched canvas. Acrylic paint.
