Graphite and White Chalk Drawing

Devin Haney Drawing in graphite and white chalk.

9 x 12 - Charcoal and graphite, on Strathmore toned gray paper. The following images below give a brief look at how I drew this picture.

Step 1. Roughing in the shape of the head. I got anxious and drew the nose in before finishing with the vital step of constructing the head. (Discipline is key, I must remember to remain patient, and enjoy the journey of creation the proper way, so that I can post on this here blog from here on out). LOL!!

Step 2. “Welp”… as my father used to say, (the cat is out of the bag.) As you can see, I just went ahead and starting drawing and shading in facial features. 🥴 I couldn’t help myself.

I finally drew the bottom portion of his face at the stage.

Step 3. Now I am shading and adding more details.

Step 4. Finishing highlights on the face with white chalk and lifting value with a kneaded eraser. Final result shown above the first image digitally matted and watermarked. Thank you for checking out this blog. —- P.S. (If you would like a portrait of yourself or a loved one drawn, reach out via email for more details on how to make that a reality.)
